Cookie Policy
How Maplethrive uses cookies, local storage and similar technologies — written in plain English.
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and local storage are, how Maplethrive uses them, and the choices you have. It supplements our Terms of Use. By using Maplethrive you consent to the use of cookies as described below, in line with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Canadian privacy law, as well as widely accepted GDPR principles.
1. What Are Cookies and Local Storage?
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. Local storage is a browser feature that lets a website store small pieces of data (key/value pairs) on your device for later use. Both technologies are used by Maplethrive for a small set of purposes described below.
2. What We Store
Maplethrive keeps the following information locally in your browser. Nothing in this list is transmitted to our servers.
- Age confirmation flag — so we don't show the 18+ age gate on every page load.
- Cookie consent choice — your "Accept" or "Decline" selection for the cookie banner.
- Virtual coin balance, win/loss counters, streaks and best streak — one record per game (Blackjack, Dice Roll, Keno, Hi-Lo Cards) so your progress survives a page refresh.
All of the above is stored under a short key-prefix in your browser's localStorage and contains no personal data, no identifiers, no IP address and no payment information.
3. Categories of Cookies / Storage Used
Strictly Necessary
Used to make the site work. They store your age-gate confirmation and basic preferences. These are always on because the site cannot function correctly without them.
Functional
Remember your in-game virtual coin balance and game stats so you don't lose progress between visits on the same device and browser. You can clear them at any time by clearing your browser storage.
Third-Party
Maplethrive loads two third-party assets from public CDNs:
- Google Fonts — for the Bricolage Grotesque and Inter typefaces;
- Lucide Icons (unpkg) — for the icon set used in the interface.
These providers may set technical cookies of their own. Maplethrive does not control those cookies; please refer to each provider's privacy policy.
4. We Do Not Use
- Advertising or marketing cookies;
- Third-party analytics that profile individual users;
- Tracking pixels or web beacons;
- Cross-site or cross-device tracking.
5. Your Choices
On your first visit you will see a cookie banner with two clear options: Accept All or Decline. Your choice is stored locally and we won't show the banner again on the same device. You can:
- Clear local storage and cookies at any time through your browser settings;
- Use private / incognito browsing to avoid persistent storage;
- Block cookies entirely in your browser — note that the age gate and game progress will then not be remembered between visits.
6. Managing Cookies in Common Browsers
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data
7. International Visitors
Maplethrive is operated from Canada and is primarily intended for Canadian visitors. If you visit from outside Canada, your local data-protection laws — such as the EU GDPR or the UK GDPR — may grant you additional rights. We aim to honour these rights to the extent reasonably possible.
8. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Significant changes will trigger a refreshed cookie banner so you can review your choice.
